Uber Eats commission in Australia is 30% of the order when Uber's delivery people deliver, 16% when you deliver yourself, and 8% for pick-up, according to Uber Eats' Australian pricing page as of October 2026. GST is charged on the fee, and new venues pay a $700 (excl. GST) activation fee.

With Menulog gone from Australia since 26 November 2025, Uber Eats and DoorDash are now the two big apps most takeaways, pubs and cafés deal with. This article covers what Uber Eats charges, what that does to your margin, and how to keep more of each order.

What does Uber Eats charge restaurants in Australia?

Uber Eats' Australian merchant pricing page (checked October 2026) lists these Marketplace rates for orders placed in the Uber Eats app:

Option Uber Eats fee What it means
Uber Delivery 30% Uber's delivery people take the order to the customer
Self-delivery 16% You deliver with your own staff
Pick-up 8% The customer collects from you

There are one-off costs too. A new location pays an activation fee of $700 (excl. GST), deducted from your payouts in weekly instalments, covering account set-up, professional photography and initial support. Each extra location is $350 (excl. GST). If a tablet Uber provides is damaged, lost or not returned, there's a $200 (excl. GST) damage fee per device.

Is GST charged on Uber Eats commission?

Yes. The pricing page doesn't say so next to the percentages, but Uber's own payment reports include a line called "GST on Marketplace Fee", which is the GST charged on its fee. In practice, add 10% GST to the percentage.

If you're registered for GST you can usually claim that back as a GST credit, so the real cost drops to the bare percentage. If you aren't registered, the GST is an extra cost. Your accountant can confirm which applies to you.

What does Uber Eats cost on a $40 order?

Say a couple orders $40 of food on a Saturday night. This is a hypothetical example using the published rates plus GST:

How it's fulfilled Fee GST on fee Uber Eats takes You keep
Uber Delivery (30%) $12.00 $1.20 $13.20 $26.80
Self-delivery (16%) $6.40 $0.64 $7.04 $32.96
Pick-up (8%) $3.20 $0.32 $3.52 $36.48
Phoned in direct, card in person about $0.64 about $39.36

The direct row uses Square's published in-person card rate of 1.6% (October 2026). Cash costs nothing. Self-delivery also means paying a driver, so the real saving there is smaller than the table suggests.

Uber's help centre adds one detail worth knowing: the percentage is applied to the order subtotal before discounts. Run a "20% off" offer and you still pay the fee on the full price.

What is Uber Eats Webshop, and is it cheaper?

The same pricing page lists Webshop, an ordering site you control that Uber describes as "commission-free". The fees are lower than the app, but they aren't zero:

Webshop option Fee
Uber Delivery 25%
Self-delivery 6%
Pick-up 6%

So a $40 pick-up order through Webshop costs $2.40 plus GST. It's cheaper than the app, but it's still a percentage of every order. We compare Webshop with other direct options in a later article on commission-free ordering.

Is Uber Eats worth it for a small venue?

Often, yes, for winning new customers. Uber Eats is one of the two big delivery apps in Australia, and plenty of people open it before they've decided what to eat. For a new takeaway, or a café a few streets back from the main drag, that reach is hard to buy elsewhere.

The trouble starts with the regulars. Once someone loves your food, every repeat order through the app still costs 30% plus GST if Uber delivers. Uber didn't win that customer. You did.

A sensible split looks like this:

  • Let Uber Eats find new people. Keep your listing, photos and menu sharp.
  • Make pick-up attractive. At 8% it's the cheapest way to sell through the app.
  • Bring regulars to your own channels. Your number on every bag, your website and your Google Business Profile.

How can I pay less Uber Eats commission?

You won't change the rate card, but you can change where orders come from.

  1. Put your phone number everywhere. Menus, receipts, bags, your Google profile, the top of your website.
  2. Keep your Google Business Profile accurate. People searching "takeaway near me" see your hours and a call button before any app.
  3. Be careful with offers. Because the fee is charged before discounts, promotions cost more than they look.
  4. Answer the phone during service. A missed call often becomes an app order instead.

A simple website with tap-to-call on every page does a lot of this for you. That's what we build at Pop-Up, along with looking after your Google profile, so regulars find your number and call.

What percentage does Uber Eats take in Australia?

As of October 2026, Uber Eats' Australian pricing page lists 30% for Uber Delivery, 16% for self-delivery and 8% for pick-up on app orders. GST is charged on the fee, so the cost before any GST credit is 33%, 17.6% or 8.8%.

Does Uber Eats charge a sign-up fee in Australia?

Yes. There's a $700 (excl. GST) activation fee for a new location, deducted from payouts in weekly instalments, and $350 (excl. GST) for each extra location. It covers set-up, photography and initial support.

Is Menulog still an option?

No. Menulog stopped taking orders in Australia at 23:59 AEDT on 26 November 2025. Uber Eats and DoorDash are now the two main delivery apps for Australian venues.
