DoorDash commission in Australia is 30% on delivery orders and 15% on pick-up orders placed in the DoorDash app, according to DoorDash's Australian pricing page as of October 2026. If you deliver with your own drivers it's 15%, or 12% on DashPass orders. GST applies to the commission, and new venues get a 30-day trial at 0%.
DoorDash and Uber Eats are now the two big delivery apps in Australia, so most venues end up weighing one against the other. We covered Uber Eats commission last week. This article sets out DoorDash's rates, what they do to a typical order, and where the costs hide.
What does DoorDash charge restaurants in Australia?
DoorDash's Australian pricing page (checked October 2026) lists these rates:
| Product | Rate | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace, delivery | 30% | Order placed in the DoorDash app, delivered by a Dasher |
| Marketplace, pick-up | 15% | Order placed in the app, customer collects |
| Self-Delivery | 15% | App order, you deliver with your own drivers |
| Self-Delivery, DashPass order | 12% | App order from a DashPass member, you deliver |
| Self-Delivery, using a Dasher | AU$9.99 flat fee per delivery | When you call in a Dasher for an order you'd normally deliver |
The same page says there are no start-up fees or credit card fees on Marketplace, and the DoorDash tablet costs $0 a week in Australia. Optional extras such as Promotions and Sponsored Listings carry marketing fees if you choose to use them.
Is there a DoorDash free trial?
Yes. DoorDash's pricing page says all Australian partners can start with a 30-day free trial of 0% delivery and pick-up commission. After the trial, you move onto the commission and tablet fees in your Merchant Signup Sheet. You can change your plan in the Merchant Portal during or after the trial.
Use the trial to measure, not just to earn. Note how many orders come from new customers and how many from people who already know you. That split tells you whether DoorDash is finding you new trade or just taking a cut of your existing trade.
Is GST charged on DoorDash commission?
Yes. DoorDash's payout and statement guide lists "commission tax" as a separate line collected by DoorDash, alongside the commission itself. In Australia that's GST at 10%.
If you're registered for GST you can usually claim it back as a credit. If you're not, it's an extra cost on every order.
What does DoorDash cost on a $40 order?
Here's a hypothetical $40 order, using the published rates plus GST:
| How it's fulfilled | Commission | GST | DoorDash takes | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace delivery (30%) | $12.00 | $1.20 | $13.20 | $26.80 |
| Marketplace pick-up (15%) | $6.00 | $0.60 | $6.60 | $33.40 |
| Self-Delivery (15%) | $6.00 | $0.60 | $6.60 | $33.40 |
| Self-Delivery, DashPass (12%) | $4.80 | $0.48 | $5.28 | $34.72 |
Self-delivery also means paying your driver, so it isn't as cheap as the table makes it look. Pick-up is the cleanest saving.
One difference from Uber Eats worth noticing: DoorDash charges 15% on pick-up, while Uber Eats lists 8%. If a lot of your app trade is collection, that gap matters.
What about DoorDash Online Ordering?
DoorDash also offers Online Ordering, an ordering page for your own website with no commission. As of October 2026 its pricing page lists a credit card processing fee of 1.75% + AU$0.30 per order, plus a AU$5.50 delivery fee (including GST) when a Dasher delivers.
DoorDash's own learning centre article quotes a different processing fee, 2.9% + $0.30 for some packages, so check the figure on your sign-up sheet before you rely on it. We'll compare this and other direct-ordering options in a later article.
Is DoorDash worth the commission?
For many venues, yes, as a way to reach people who've never heard of you. DoorDash is one of the two big apps left in Australia, and being on both means you don't miss customers who only use one.
But 30% plus GST on a regular's tenth order is hard to justify. You won that customer with your food, not DoorDash's app.
A fair way to use it:
- Use the trial to learn. Find out who's ordering and how often.
- Pay DoorDash for new customers. That's what the commission is for.
- Bring regulars home. Your number on every bag, your website and your Google Business Profile.
- Review promotions every month. Paid placements should bring new people, not discount the ones you already have.
How can I keep more of each order?
- Put your phone number in every bag and on every menu.
- Keep your Google Business Profile current. Hours, photos and a call button, so locals find you before they find the app.
- Promote pick-up. It's cheaper on the app, and free if they phone you instead.
- Answer the phone during service. A missed call is often an app order instead.
A simple website with tap-to-call on every page makes calling you easier than opening an app. That's what we build at Pop-Up, along with looking after your Google profile.
